Quinta do Lorde: This Island Hideaway Is All You Will Ever Need

Madeira is the biggest in a set of volcanic islands in the Atlantic Ocean – all we needed for a long break, and the first international trip of 2018 we are sharing with you 😉

And yes, Madeira is Christiano Ronaldo’s hometown! The airport is named after him which is a little bizarre.

Madeira is incredibly diverse: there are tropical jungles, desertic hills, high peaks and volcanic beaches. You could spend months exploring this wonderful place!

The island has a fairly laid back culture with an emphasis on good food and drink.

One of the things we enjoyed the most about the island is its volcanic origin, giving it dramatic scenery and unusual vegetation. This is particularly seen in the Western side – home to Quinta do Lorde, our latest discovery.

Hotel Quinta do Lorde

We chose Hotel Quinta do Lorde for its privileged location; right by the ocean and surrounded by breathtaking sights. Waking up to the see is probably the best part of staying there.

The hotel is 20 minutes away from Funchal, so you don’t even have to rush through the city – something we usually run away from.

This will give you a feel of Quinta do Lorde:

The photograph brings memories of ocean breeze and poncha – Madeira’s signature drink!

The hotel has a marina, swimming pools, and even a church! There are also two restaurants and a private beach with a natural swimming pool.

The food was absolutely delicious. We had “rice with octopus”, the island’s traditional dish, and a risotto that put the cherry on top of a wonderful day.

Right by the hotel, we visited Ponta de São Lourenço. It’s an excellent place for trekking and enjoying the Island’s sunset.

Madeira has many indigenous species of plants and flowers that have evolved in surprising new ways there in the island. We loved the red clay paths to mysterious cliffs and remote hills too! Besides, we had the best couple time in this uber-romantic setting – a true reminder of what really matters in life.
